Compassion Tree   Introduction

To begin, download and print your Compassion Tree Worksheet (PDF).

You are welcome to fill your Tree’s branches with notes, ideas and thoughts that come up as you move through this course. You may reflect on how compassion satisfaction counterbalances compassion fatigue in your work, or simply gain a better understanding of what these concepts mean to you. Anything you think may be helpful for your understanding and growth as a Child Abuse Medical Provider can go on your Compassion Tree—and don’t second guess, let go of any judgment, and get the most out of this course!

Taking care of yourself is essential for the unique role you play in this work. When we are fully present with ourselves and practice what we need for our own well-being, only then can we be fully present for the children and families we care for. As you move through this course, feel supported by the strengths and awareness gained from creating your unique Compassion Tree. Ultimately, this is an opportunity for you to deepen self-compassion as you step into your role as a Child Abuse Medical Provider, one day at a time. And remember, this course is ongoing. You can return to your Compassion Tree at anytime, as the practice of Trauma Stewardship is ever-present throughout our careers.
