Mentor and Faculty Application Process

Pediatricians who have completed a fellowship, are certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in child abuse pediatrics and who practice in a child-friendly setting, such as a Child Advocacy Center, can apply to become CHAMP Mentors.

Physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants who work with a CHAMP Mentor and have training and experience in providing child sexual abuse evaluations can apply to become CHAMP Faculty.

The CHAMP Mentor application process has these steps:

  1. Submit a Mentor application along with a current CV.
  2. Submit a letter of reference from your fellowship director.
  3. Submit a letter of reference from a medical professional who can comment on your teaching skills.
  4. Submit documentation of American Board of Pediatrics certification for child abuse pediatrics.
  5. After your documentation is complete, JoAnne Race, CHAMP Program Manager, will forward your application to a committee of Mentors for review.

    After you have been approved to become a Mentor, you will be partnered with an experienced Mentor who can be of help setting up observerships and education programs for medical students and residents. If you have not already taken the online CHAMP course Evaluating Child Sexual Abuse, please take it in order to become familiar with it. The course is a requirement for medical professionals seeking an observership and often used as part of medical education.

Mentors are listed on the Roster of CHAMP Mentors and Faculty and their facilities are listed as a CHAMP Center of Excellence on the CHAMP website www.CHAMPprogram.com .

  2. Submit 2 letters of reference, one from the CHAMP Mentor you work with and the other from a medical professional who can comment on your teaching skills.

  4. If you have not already taken the online CHAMP course Evaluating Child Sexual Abuse, please take it in order to become familiar with it. The course is a requirement for medical professionals seeking an observership.
